Opening of the Youth Against Poverty workshop

A three-day “Youth Against Poverty -YAP” workshop is currently being held in the country and is the first project of its kind to be handled by Society For Community Outreach and Training, SCOT. The workshop aims to nurture youths to be aware and well-informed concerning the reality of poverty in Brunei, while also encouraging and empowering them to form and plan creative ideas to help alleviate poverty.

The workshop was officiated by Dato Paduka Doctor Awang Haji Affendy bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. The workshop started with a forum discussion titled “The Role of Different Stakeholders in Achieving Zero Poverty”. The group with the most creative and innovative idea will be awarded with five hundred dollars along with an aid and guidance from SCOT and support from the local authorities and established institutions in Brunei. The workshop also aims to aid and amplify existing efforts for continued improvements in the country’s standard of living in terms of achieving zero poverty and to encourage civic engagement by facilitating collaborations concerning poverty eradication and problems among participants and local authorities and Non-Government Organisations.
