THE Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) kicks off their El-Morad fundraiser campaign yesterday to raise funds to assist a less-fortunate family of three in Tutong District.
SCOT aims at raising $4,000 for the family of a father and two sons where their dilapidated house is in need of renovation, particularly their kitchen and toilets.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports previously donated $2,000 to SCOT’s cause which started their campaign to raise another $2,000 to reach their target.
According to SCOT President Mohammad Khairul Azmi Hj Mohd Salleh, the family of three have been supported and assisted by SCOT since the beginning of their establishment where their past initiatives such as the Poverty Art and building of the chicken coop have also to assist the family.
“We have been helping this family since the beginning of SCOT and we also want to make sure that these two boys grow up in a good environment where they can study and have a better life,” he said.
The fundraiser involved 10 voluntary and invited vendors selling a variety of delicacies such as cupcakes, donuts, milkshakes and other beverages where 35 per cent of their earnings will be donated to the SCOT cause.
Realistically, he and his team hoped to raise at least $500 from the fundraiser. “Earning a small amount from today should be considered a success as well, as long as the amount keeps on growing,” he said.
SCOT has also scheduled a number of other initiatives later this year to raise more funds for the family. “It’s great that people are actually coming and being aware by wanting to be involved with this renovation project. If we do it again with more vendors then InsyaAllah, the outcome would be more than great and I think this family would really appreciate the public’s care in helping them,” said the SCOT president.
SCOT has been closely working with the 42-year-old single father and his 11 and six-year-old sons who reside in Kg Bukit. The first phase of their project was to assist in building a chicken coop and phase two involves the renovation of their self-built home made of wooden. The ongoing project expands towards extending his home to include more space for his growing children as well as carry out education initiatives for the children as a means of ejecting them out of the poverty cycle.
