Voluntary work or providing services without expecting any payment in return reflects the self-esteem of the Brunei community with the caring attitude. Youth involvement in various voluntary activities clearly demonstrates their love for their homeland in together developing the nation’s future.
Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s Society for Community Outreach and Training, SCOT, is among the youth groups who are active in voluntary work in the country. Their involvement in the community work proves that they too are able to play an important role in community development.
The Green Xchange Project that was conducted by this group also involves other youth in gaining experience towards nation building. The opportunity to become volunteers is one of the ways to contribute services to the community and nation. Volunteers like Sarah and Fatimah, welcome the SCOT Programme as a way to keep youth active and well-occupied.
Youth involvement in voluntary activities reflects the quality of the country’s youth as a responsible generat
ion towards formation of noble individuals. Dynamic youth can give a positive impact on the community to achieve the mission of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports towards “Making the spirit of volunteerism and self-reliance a culture among all levels of the community,” by 2015. Hence, the country urges more volunteers to come forward to contribute their services sincerely towards the Monarch, religion, race and nation.
