The Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) will begin its third and final phase of their SCOT Education Project 2016 which will see several teacher-trainers heading to Cambodia to teach English next month.
Speaking to The Brunei Times, Director of SCOT Education Siti Noraspadiyah Hj Md Sah (pic) said that nine teacher-trainers from Brunei, including herself, will be going to Cambodia from December 3 to 16 to teach English to young teachers there.
“This year, we have two government school teachers in our group, so it is the first time we are receiving interest from the public (with regards to this),” said Siti Noraspadiyah.
SCOT has previously been to Cambodia to teach English to teachers in 2013 and 2014, she said.
“Last time, we only carried out teacher-training for one school but this time, we’ll be helping out three separate organisations, so it’s going to be a bigger group we’ll be training now,” she added.
Siti Noraspadiyah said SCOT will be training about 14 teachers in Cambodia next month, whereas they only trained about six to seven teachers previously.
“We’ve heard that some of the teachers (we’ll be training) were the same ones we trained in 2014,” she said.
“If that is the case, we will be providing them with new sets of training skills as we don’t want to repeat the same training from 2014,” she added.
Phase One of SCOT’s Education Project 2016 earlier this year had seen the society providing school materials to 22 children from eight underprivileged families in the Brunei-Muara District.
Meanwhile, Phase Two of the project saw SCOT working with the Rimba II National Housing Scheme Village Consultative Council to conduct a 12-week programme for 57 students in a bid to improve their English language skills.
