THE Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) in collaboration with Brunei Petroleum Society and JAPEM Tutong recently organised a home renovation project for a family of three in Tutong.
Muhd Eddy, a retired army personnel residing in the rural area of the Tutong District, lives with his two children, aged six and 11, both of whom are currently studying at Kg Bukit Primary School.
Currently, SCOT is pursuing the Phase One ‘SCOT-Agriculture’ project with Muhd Eddy in hopes that it would generate a more sustainable income. According to SCOT, their strategy of assisting Muhd Eddy by building a chicken coop back in 2012 was for him to breed livestock which would allow him to generate income by selling it.
“We understand that there is high demand for ‘ayam kampong’ in the village and we took this as a market opportunity for him to open up that niche,” elaborated SCOT through a press release.
From the routine visits conducted by SCOT, it was discovered that parts of his house were at risk of collapsing due to the inferior materials used that could not withstand the tropical weather. A part of the toilet had collapsed resulting in injuries to his youngest son who was using it at the time of the incident. The dilapidated condition of their home called for an immediate renovation to ensure the safety of the family.
SCOT has expressed their appreciation to Brunei Petroleum Society and JAPEM Tutong for their financial contribution and it is hoped that with the effort being channelled into this project, it would provide Muhd Eddy and his family a safer home.
