SCOT is a student-led initiative that was established in May 2011. Its mission is to become a catalyst for sustainable poverty alleviation, in line with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s vision of eradicating poverty by 2035.
The NGO aims to empower the underprivileged by exploring sustainable means of living, besides creating awareness and educating the public on the importance of uplifting poverty. Through its ongoing sustainable projects, such as the Green Xchange, SCOT hopes to assist the underprivileged in breaking the vicious cycle of poverty. The successful Green Xchange project was based on the exchange of recyclables with basic commodities for use. The project targeted residents of Kampung Ayer with the aim of helping to clean up the area from pollution whilst educating the villagers on the value of recyclable materials. Over 5,000kg of recyclables were collected in January to help families with low income.
Gracing the ceremony yesterday was Sendi Anak Batu, UBD Deputy Dean of the Student Affairs Section, with CEO of Caveena Solutions Lim Sheng Ming, the company responsible for the creation of the website.
